Al Aafiya is a non-for-profit mental health and wellbeing organisation works with grass root diverse communities of Birmingham, by providing a pathway to better mental health and wellbeing services.

Al Aafiya was set up at the start of 2020 in response to COVI19 pandemic. We found that people were struggling with their mental health and many people had fear of the unknown (corona virus), people were contacting us who were struggling to grieve and coping during lockdown.

The main focus of the organisation is to destigmatise mental health, as mental health is a taboo subject in most communities, this is where Al Aafiya as a grass root organisation using a bottom-up approach to be culturally and religiously sensitive to engage communities into mental health and wellbeing services.

Our aim is to help remove the barriers to mental health services by working in partnership with statutory and third sector organisations
